Windows 10 surely is attractive but god it brought so many problems with every update I got. I have a HP pavilion p073-tx. It came with windows 8.1. Then came the windows 10 update. It worked pretty fine for few days but PC was getting very slow, especially during the startup. So I had decided to do a clean installation of Windows 10 on my PC. Downloaded the iso (Windows 10 Home Single language) and clean installed it on my PC. But then came this annoying glitch. My PC's screen would go blank on being kept idle for a while or on closing the lid as if going into sleep mode but then wouldn't wake up to mouse touch or keyboard.!!!! I mean, its terrible. Every time that happens, the only way out of it was to use the physical power button , and shut down the PC with a long press. I then searched online and came to know that it was some driver problem. I contacted HP support and the technician actually solved it by reverting some drivers back to old version!! Amazing..
Then again after few days I had to reset my PC to remove virus and malware. As soon as I did this the problem started all over again. I again called the support but this time no one was able to solve it.. Now that's lame. I even told about them reverting back driver last time but they couldn't do anything this time.. They suggested me to revert back to Windows 8.1 with the recovery disc and upgrade again.. -_- But I Just let it be and recently I found this amazing solution online which works like a charm!!
It turns out to be an Intel Management Engine Interface Driver (MEI) problem. Follow these steps to solve this issue:
Step 1:
Download version 9/10 of the MEI driver from here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=intel+management+engine
Version 9.5.24.1790 1.5M works best with mostly all PCs.
Step 2:
Download the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package
(http://download.microsoft.com/downlDanGoad/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-DanG/wushowhide.diagcab)
Step 3:
Go to Control Panel> Administrative Services>Windows Update.
Stop the service first. Make it Manual from Automatic.
Step 4:
Install the downloaded MEI driver. If it shows a dialog box asking you to confirm installation of old driver, accept it.
Step 5:
Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver. This will prevent Windows from automatically updating this driver and will save you the headache.
Step 6:
Go back to the services and start the Windows update service again. You can opt to chose Automatic(Delayed Start) option.
Step 7:
Restart your PC
Thanks a lot to DanG for posting this solution on HP forums..
Hope The new updates get better than make it worse from now on..
